Description
A Smoky Mountains activity book that gets kids outside, not on a screen
After hundreds of nights in these mountains with my boys, I’ve learned that kids don’t need a screen to stay busy. They need something better to reach for. This Smoky Mountains activity book is that something. It’s a pick-your-adventure field guide that turns your family’s week in the park into missions, discoveries, and stories your kids will still be telling next year.

How This Smoky Mountains Activity Book Works:
There are five sections, each built the same way:
- Touch the Ancient: rocks, lichen, and some of the oldest mountains on Earth
- Listen to the Water: streams, salamanders, and where every raindrop ends up
- Watch the Wild: elk, black bears, tracks, and the synchronous fireflies
- Feel the Air: fog, blue haze, and why it’s colder at the top
- Make It Better: leaving the park better than you found it
Inside each section, your kids pick from three missions: a quick one (about 15 minutes), one that takes an hour, and an all-day scavenger hunt they keep in the back of their mind. Every mission comes with a Family Round, a simple game to play together at dinner. These are my boys’ favorite part, and they really work.
Each section also includes a For the Curious page packed with real facts for the reader in your family, a Back at Camp wind-down with questions and a recap, and a Bring It to Life drawing page.
What Else Is Inside
- Where to Go suggestions for every section, with real spots along 441 and beyond
- Six Family Capstone activities to close out your trip together
- A One Year From Now letter your kids write, seal, and open next year
- A Draw This Trip page for kids who’d rather sketch than write
- Seven daily travel journals, one for each day of your trip
Made for Every Age
This Smoky Mountains activity book grows with your kids, so the same guide works whether you’re traveling with a kindergartner or a teenager.
Ages 5 to 8 love playing a part and can let the drawing pages do the talking. Ages 9 to 12 love being the expert, so hand them the For the Curious pages and let them teach you something. With teens, skip calling it an activity. Start with the all-day missions and let the One Year From Now letter surprise them.
